Many people who book their first astrology reading have never done this before. Some are curious. Some are navigating a difficult period. Some have been thinking about it for years and finally decided to try. Most arrive with a mix of genuine questions and mild uncertainty about what they are walking into.
I have been practising Vedic astrology in Singapore since 2015. After more than 3,000 consultations, the first visit looks roughly the same for most people: a little apprehension at the start, and a level of clarity by the end that they did not quite expect. This post explains what actually happens — before, during, and after your first astrology reading at Nivas Astro.
Before Your Session — What to Prepare
The most important thing you need for an accurate astrology reading is your exact birth details: your date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. Of these three, time of birth is the most critical. Even a difference of a few minutes can shift the rising sign and alter the entire chart reading. If you have your birth certificate, check it. If you are unsure, a approximate time is better than nothing — I will note the uncertainty and adjust the reading accordingly.
You do not need to prepare questions in advance, though many clients find it helpful to think briefly about what they most want clarity on. Career direction, finances, relationships, health, timing of a major decision — these are the most common areas people bring to a first reading. Coming with a general sense of your priorities helps focus the session.
What you do not need to prepare: a list of worries, a specific outcome you want to hear, or any prior knowledge of astrology. You do not need to believe in astrology to benefit from the session — you only need to be open to listening.
What Happens During the Session
A Horoscope Reading at Nivas Astro is 60 minutes. The session uses both Parashara and KP Astrology systems, which are two complementary branches of Vedic astrology. Together they provide both a broad life framework and detailed timing analysis.
The first part of the session involves mapping the birth chart — the planetary positions at the exact moment and place of your birth. These positions are not fixed labels. They describe patterns: how you tend to approach decisions, what areas of life require more attention, what cycles you are currently in, and how those cycles are likely to develop.
The reading then moves into the areas most relevant to your situation. Career, finances, relationships, health, major life transitions — whatever you have brought to the session. I will walk through what the chart shows, explain the reasoning, and give you a clear picture of the patterns at work. If remedies are relevant — gemstones, timing adjustments, or other practical steps — I will mention them at this stage.
The session is a conversation, not a monologue. You can ask questions at any point, push back, ask for clarification, or redirect to a different area. The goal is for you to leave with clarity that is useful, not a list of predictions that leave you more anxious than you arrived.
What Goes Into the Reading Before You Arrive
What clients experience in a 60-minute session is the visible part of the work. Before the session, the birth chart is constructed, the active Dasha and Bhukti periods are calculated, the current transit conditions are mapped, and the key planetary patterns relevant to the client's situation are identified. This preparation is what allows the session itself to move quickly through insight rather than spending time on mechanics.
Vedic astrology is not simple. The Parashara and KP systems used at Nivas Astro are detailed frameworks that take years to understand and longer to apply with accuracy. The fee for a consultation reflects not just the hour in the session but the depth of preparation and the years of practice behind it — the same way any specialised professional consultation does.
People rarely question the cost of an hour with a lawyer, a doctor, or a financial adviser. An astrology reading offers a different kind of clarity — one that looks at the broader pattern of a life rather than a single transaction — but the standard of preparation and professional care is the same.
What This Reading Is Not
I do not practise fear-based astrology. I will not tell you that something terrible is about to happen unless you buy a gemstone or perform a ritual. I will not manufacture urgency to pressure you into follow-up sessions. If the chart shows challenges, I will explain them honestly and in context — with the same calm I would want if someone were reading my own chart.
An astrology reading is not a substitute for professional advice on legal, medical, financial, or psychological matters. What it offers is a different kind of perspective — one that looks at the larger patterns of your life and provides a framework for understanding where you are and where the natural momentum is taking you.
After the Session — What You Will Leave With
Most clients leave a first reading with three things: a clearer understanding of their current life phase, a sense of the key areas to focus on or be patient about, and one or two specific, practical next steps. Some clients book a follow-up months later when new situations arise. Others return for a different service — Muhurtam timing, a Vastu assessment, or a numerology consultation.
There is no obligation to return. The reading is complete in itself.
A Note on Returning Clients
If you have previously had a Horoscope Reading at Nivas Astro and have new questions arising from recent developments, the Returning Client Q&A is designed for you. It applies the existing chart understanding to answer specific new questions — without repeating the baseline reading. This option is available for two or four focused questions in a shorter session.
Who Comes for a First Reading
Clients at Nivas Astro come from all backgrounds and all reasons. Tamil and Indian families in Singapore with long relationships to Vedic tradition. Expatriates curious about a system they have heard about but never explored. Professionals at a crossroads. Parents navigating a child's future. Couples considering marriage. Business owners deciding on timing. People who simply want an honest conversation about where they are in life.
The session is the same for everyone: structured, honest, and focused on what is genuinely useful to you.
